The Story

The idea for OneWatt popped up back in 2001, when the founders, Em and Pao were listening to USec Guevara’s lecture on power systems. During that time, however, the idea was difficult to implement due to unfavourable market conditions and inexperience starting a business.

The idea resurfaced back in 2015 when the team joined in AngelHack, where it got the runner up title. The founders believing in the idea, decided to push the project further, and found another startup competition organized by DTI and the German Corporation for International Cooperation or GIZ, centred on green technologies. The team won the competition and received grants from the organizer to help build a more sustainable energy market for MSMEs in the Philippines.

After being supported by ImpactHub and Katalyst, the team got incubated by UP Enterprise to build its network. Under the guidance of Dr. Luis Sison and Jacinto Asuncion Jr, OneWatt refined its business plan and connected with industry partners and key figures.

Last April, the team was chosen as one of the nine startups by Rockstart Accelerator in the Netherlands. Currently, the team is expanding its network of mentors, investors and industry partners in the European region. Together, they are improving the product and enhancing the business model to fit new markets that are available.
